In winter it snows. Not as it used to, but it still does. There are two small ski resorts a short drive away from Los Molinos, also reachable by train. Just don't go at the weekend, when as early as 8:30 am road signs in the city inform disappointed Madrileños that the car parks are already full. During the week they are fine.

Puerto de Navacerrada, where skiing started in Spain. Conditions are often harsh, with high winds, fog and blizzards, and the facilities are basic. But on a good day some of its runs are simply excellent.

Puerto de Navacerrada can be reached with a delightful 1920s mountain train from Cercedilla, one stop away from Los Molinos.

Valdesquí is a small ski resort, more sheltered than Puerto de Navacerrada, with good snow and slightly better facilities. Mainly intermediate runs. It can be reached with the same train from Cercedilla as Puerto de Navacerrada. A free shuttle bus takes you to the resort from the Cotos station.
