To the west and to the north, the massive ridge of the Sierra de Guadarrama blocks the horizon. And then there's Velázquez's sky.

La Peñota, to the west, is the most prominent peak, rising just outside the town. 6,300 feet, a brisk 2-hour walk from Los Molinos.

To the north some of the best known summits of Guadarrama, as seen from Los Molinos. From left to right: Siete Picos, Bola del Mundo and la Maliciosa. All easily reachable.

Bola del Mundo and la Maliciosa, over 7,300 feet, seen from Los Molinos.

The gentler hills to the east: Jarahonda and Peña del Sol.

Dramatic skies as the sun sets behind the mountains. Nature dwarfing history.
